Sydney Morning Herald Review

“Wanita believed in herself so much, but she was saying that no one understood her,” says Walker. “So I said, ’Well, I’ll listen and see if I can understand who you are. Lots of elements of the story fascinated me.”

A more raw, suspenseful journey he could not have scripted. There are times when the goal seems out of reach, so enthusiastically does Wanita embrace the rock’n’roll lifestyle. She also gives away precious funds to the homeless in San Francisco. Her spontaneous performances for the down and out comprise some of the most moving moments of the film.

“The trip absolutely lived up to my expectations and more so, because I thought my music was dying,” says Wanita. “It’s very much alive in America.”
